Bellevue – a little bit about the area
Originally settled in the 1830’s, Bellevue is Nebraska’s oldest “continuous” town with a thriving community continuing to date. Later on, Bellevue was incorporated in 1855 and became part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.
Fast-forward to today, and Bellevue (French for “beautiful view”) boasts a population of over 50,000 residents, comfortably situated in Sarpy County, Nebraska and nestled in at an elevation of some 1159ft.
The city’s 16.2 square miles is mostly covered by land with only 0.17 square miles of water, and is bordered by the Missouri River on its easternmost side.
At last census, the Bellevue Public School district operated two high schools, three middle schools and fourteen elementary schools employing roughly 575 teachers and serving over 8500 students.
